ENGINEERING ADMINISTRATOR

Powersystems is a high voltage engineering company specialising in electrical power infrastructure, grid connections and renewable generation.  Due to continuing success and a secure sales pipeline we are looking to recruit a highly motivated individual with good administrative experience to join our friendly team.

You will be responsible for the general smooth running of the office and supporting our Engineering Department.  This is a full-time role based in our Yate office.   Hours of working are 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday (with an hour for lunch).

Duties and responsibilities of the role include:

  • Acting as first point of contact for the company, face to face, over the telephone and via email.
  • Respond to routine enquiries and correspondence via email and mail.
  • Create reports, spreadsheets and presentations.
  • Compile operation & maintenance manuals, which could include editing technical drawings and other diagrams.
  • Organising travel and accommodation arrangements for Engineers and site teams.
  • Creating purchase orders and sending to customers.
  • Assisting with corporate and marketing projects and administration.
  • Purchasing general office supplies.
  • Carrying out location of utility services in relation to specific projects. To include liaison with relevant councils to obtain necessary licences to carry out road working, submittal of relevant licences and notice to work documents to councils and liaison with civil contractor.
  • Providing general office support.
  • Preparing post to be sent and taking to Post Office as necessary.

 

Qualifications / skills

  • Previous experience in an administrative role or capacity.
  • Great customer services skills with the ability to communicate with a variety of people.
  • The ability to multitask and prioritise accordingly with sometimes a large workload.
  • Good IT skills, with knowledge of MS packages, databases and file sharing sites.
  • A team player that is self-motivated, with a confident and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Great organisational skills and a high level of attention to detail.

 

Salary and benefits

  • Salary £18,000 – £21,500 dependent on experience and qualifications.

SCOTLAND BASED HV CABLE JOINTER

Powersystems is a high voltage engineering company specialising in electrical power infrastructure, grid connections and renewable generation.  Due to continuing success and a secure sales pipeline we are looking to recruit HV cable Jointers. 

There are currently two positions available, one based in Scotland and one in England.  Due to the nature of our work candidates will be required to travel and stay away from home. 

Duties and responsibilities of the role include:

  • To carry out HV cable jointing and terminations on 11kV and 33kV (Experience on higher voltages desirable but not essential).
  • To carry out earthing and cable installations.
  • To provide assistance to electricians and other trades on larger installations.
  • Take a Supervisory role when necessary.
  • Mentor and coach junior staff in developing their knowledge and skills.
  • Assist with site breakdowns and investigative procedures.
  • Carry out work in a safe manner, adhering to health and safety procedures at all times.
  • Act as a competent person to receive safety documentation.
  • Take personal ownership and responsibility of any company property entrusted to them.
  • Project a professional image to clients and colleagues.

HV ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Powersystems is a high voltage engineering company specialising in electrical power infrastructure, grid connections and renewable generation.  Due to continuing success and a secure sales pipeline we are looking to recruit an Electrical  Engineer.

The Electrical engineer role is both diverse, challenging and rewarding. As an electrical engineer you will be given the opportunity to practice and develop a wide range of skills including electrical design, estimating, commissioning and project management. We are flexible in our approach to the role and you may choose to specialise or to work across a range of engineering and management skills, either way we will provide a supporting environment in which to develop as a high voltage specialist.

 

Duties and responsibilities of the role include:

  • Work closely with in-house design and engineering teams to ensure equipment layouts, designs, cable schedules, testing and commissioning procedures are in place.
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufactures on design, installation and commissioning issues. Obtain competitive tenders from the supply chain. Attend manufacturers factory acceptance tests when required
  • Responsibility for effective project management and delivery across a diverse range of electrical HV projects including liaison with clients, consultants and their representatives. Produce project construction programs and manage activities to the construction program. Attend site project coordination meetings and undertake inspections / audits of site works to monitor quality and progress
  • Provide leadership and management throughout the project life cycle. Oversee junior engineers and site operatives
  • Ensure project compliance with CDM and Health and Safety requirements, produce risk assessments and method statements, undertake site audits
  • Ensure onsite, pre and post energisation inspections and commissioning check are in place. Manage the interface between Powersystems and client / DNO commissioning engineers
  • Set a high standard for Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality on the sites and leading by example ensuring health and Safety is Priority No1.
  • Project a professional image to clients and colleagues.

 

Qualifications / skills

Candidates should have gained relevant experience of Electrical Engineering and Project Management within the electrical contracting or utility industries. Experience of work within the High Voltage sector is desirable, however applications for electrical engineers that wish to develop their knowledge within the High Voltage sector will be considered. Technical support, mentoring and additional training will be provided for the right candidate to further develop their skillset. 

  • Candidates must have previous experience as an electrical engineer, preferably within the electrical contracting or utilities industries. You will possess excellent technical knowledge and be able to apply this in a practical way
  • Minimum of HNC in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline
  • Previous experience of project delivery or a project management role including experience of dealing with suppliers, clients and supervision of staff. You will be confident in managing clients, contractors and third parties and have a strong commitment to the success of the projects that you undertake.
  • Have obtained or be working towards professional registration with the IET
  • Previous experience of HV switching at 11-33kV is advantageous with the desire to work towards Senior Authorised Person status under the company HV safety rules
  • Must be available to travel on work related business throughout the UK with occasional overnight stays
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence.

HV ELECTRICAL COMMISSIONING ENGINEER

The final commissioning of HV protection systems is critical to the safe and effective delivery and operation of our projects and as such this role is vital to the ongoing success of our business.

Duties and responsibilities of the role include:

  • Plan and carry out electrical testing and commissioning work in a safe manner, adhering to health and safety procedures at all times
  • Liaising with in house project engineers to produce and develop commissioning plans and provide technical input to the design and drawing approval process
  • Carry out onsite, pre and post energisation commissioning of substation equipment including transformers, tap-changers, switchgear and protection relays to ensure Powersystems projects are delivered to the highest standards
  • Produce commissioning reports, test documentation and update drawings to as built status
  • Manage interface between Powersystems and client / DNO commissioning engineers
  • Liaise with manufacturers on commissioning issues and attend FAT tests
  • Project a professional image to clients and colleagues
  • Contribute to the future success of Powersystems and its clients.

 

Qualifications / skills

Candidates should have gained relevant experience of commissioning activities within the electrical contracting or utility industries. We require you will be educated to a minimum HNC level in electrical or electronic engineering with a desire to progress to “Authorised Person” status under the company’s safety rules. We would expect you to be self-motivated with a flexible and proactive approach to work and be able to work autonomously or as part of a team.

Sound technical electrical engineering knowledge within the power sector with experience of commissioning including:

  • Primary / secondary injection testing
  • Relay programming and configuration (Micom, Sepam, Siemens, ABB)
  • AC & DC pressure testing
  • Cable testing (VLF, fault tracing and location)
  • Switchgear functional testing

ELECTRICAL ESTIMATOR/BID ENGINEER

Due to Continuing success within these sectors, are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator/Bid Engineer to join the team in our Bristol office.

►  Role:

As part of the team manage tender enquiries generated from the Sales Team. Taking tender enquiries from tender qualification, quotation build-up, bid submission through to contract award including supplier identification, value proposition and commercial considerations. Reporting to the Head of Department the successful applicant will have a pivotal role in the company’s contract awards.

►   Key Duties:

Responsible for commercial success, technical correctness, and successful return of tender submissions.

  • Manage tender enquires, qualifying requirements of the tender, identifying equipment specification and suppliers.
  • Carry out site surveys, attend pre-tender, post tender and pre-order meetings. Develop strong understanding of the requirements.
  • Set out and build-up of quotations.
  • Engage with sub-contractors and suppliers for best prices.
  • Prepare bid for client submission, including all bid documentation.
  • Meet client tender response timeframes.
  • Attend and/or lead post tender interviews.
