We are looking to recruit an experienced HV Senior Authorised Person; the role will involve travel within the UK and the willingness to work flexibly out of your standard hours as and when required.

Duties and responsibilities of the role include: 

  • Attend site to carry out HV switching operations in accordance with our electrical distribution safety rules
  • Issuing of safety documents
  • Identifying and spiking of cable circuits including fault location
  • Testing of cable circuits
  • Assist project and commissioning engineers with HV testing when required
  • Plan and carry out work in a safe manner, always adhering to health and safety procedures
  • Liaison with clients, consultants, and their representatives to ensure safe working practices
  • Oversee and mentor junior engineers, competent persons and authorised persons who are working towards SAP status
  • Manage interfaces between Powersystems and client / DNO SAP’s

Essential criteria: 

  • Experience with a utility or in electrical contracting as a Senior Authorised Person with authorisation for switching up to 33 kV
  • Have a good technical knowledge of HV switchgear, both current and obsolete equipment
  • Flexible and organised to manage workload to meet deadlines
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work proactively on own or as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Right to Work within the UK without limitation

Desirable criteria: 

  • A minimum of HNC in Electrical engineering or similar discipline
  • Experience of switching at EHV levels (66-132 kV)

    • Primary / secondary injection testing
    • Relay programming and configuration (Micom, Sepam, Siemens, ABB)
    • AC and DC pressure testing
    • Cable testing (VLF, fault tracing and location)
    • Switchgear & Transformer testing
  • Flexible and organised to manage workload to meet deadlines
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Full UK driving licence

We are looking to recruit an experienced electrical design engineer; the role is diverse, challenging and rewarding. You will be given the opportunity to practice and develop a wide range of skills including specification of HV primary equipment, design of protection and control schemes, reviewing and conducting simulation and modelling studies to demonstrate compliance. We are flexible in our approach to the role, and you may choose to specialise or to work across a range of engineering and design areas, either way we will provide a supporting environment in which to develop as a high voltage specialist.

 Duties and responsibilities of the role include:

  • Responsible for the delivery of designs within agreed time-frames, to a high quality that reflects Powersystems reputation as high voltage specialists
  • Work across multiple design projects and prioritise conflicting project deadlines
  • Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and project engineers, to understand their expectations and justify your design decisions
  • Provide technical support for the project engineers for design queries
  • Build relationships with clients, and attend design and project co-ordination meetings with clients, their consultants, and DNO and TNO representatives
  • Ensure all designs are designed for safety and are compliant with CDM and Health and Safety regulations, including producing design risk assessments, and effectively communicating risks to project engineers and construction operatives
  • Prepare design packages for DNO contestable works and balance of plant (private) works from 11 kV to 132 kV
  • Work closely with the in-house CAD drafting team to generate SLD’s, equipment layouts, cable route drawings, construction, and legal plans for new HV connections
  • Produce AC/DC schematics for protection, control, and SCADA panels, and liaise with our in-house panel assemblers on the construction of panels
  • Select HV and LV cables and design cable routes using CYMCAP and Amtech software
  • Prepare multicore cable schedules
  • Manage and review simulation studies for generation connections undertaken by other consultants or carried out in-house, including load flow, reactive power capability, fault level analysis, power quality, and harmonic studies to demonstrate compliance with Engineering Recommendations, the Distribution Code, the Grid Code, and industry standards
  • Attend sites for inspection and design purposes and attend manufacturers factory acceptance tests when required
  • Project a professional image to clients and colleagues
  • Contribute to the future success of Powersystems and its clients

Essential criteria:

  • Gained relevant experience of high voltage electrical engineering design (11 kV and above) within the electrical contracting or utility industries. You will possess excellent technical knowledge and be able to apply this in a practical way
  • HNC/ Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Right to Work within the UK without limitation

Desirable criteria:

  •  A higher degree or post graduate qualification in power systems would be an advantage
  • Have obtained or be working towards professional registration with the IET at IENG / CENG level

The Design Manager will ensure that the department produces designs that conform to statutory requirements, meet the design specification and are commercially viable. We are looking to recruit an experienced supply chain and logistics manager; this role is diverse, challenging and rewarding.   As the supply chain and logistics manager, you will manage the supply of equipment and materials to support our projects and operations teams.  You will negotiate with suppliers to find the most efficient and cost-effective way to support delivery of our service to our clients. 

Duties and responsibilities of the role include: 

  • Forecast the order cycle ensuring adequate levels of stock to meet the demand of projects
  • Manage supplier relationships to negotiate best terms for HV and LV consumables and equipment,
  • Maintain a competitive preferred supplier list
  • Purchasing and distributing of materials in line with production needs and peaks
  • Support Project Engineers with ordering of one-off high value items
  • Prioritise and manage safety, health, environment, and quality of the head office facilities, including supporting the maintenance of Powersystems head office, scoping works, negotiating and organising contractors to complete works
  • Order and oversee the provision of PPE, tools, and tool sets, including managing the budget, allocation, registration, and return
  • Organise the picking, packaging, and logistics of materials so that they are available at the required time
  • For all deliveries promptly receipt and store goods, ensuring that the stores are tidy, organised and well maintained
  • Organise regular stock checks to ensure accuracy of stock levels and appropriate levels of stock holding
  • Oversee the offsite storage yard checking that appropriate stock is stored in each location
  • Oversee the ordering, repair, control, and calibration of company plant ensuring it is available and well maintained
  • Manage the maintenance of company vehicles including MOT, servicing and repair ensuring compliance with lease conditions and regulations

  •  Provide management throughout the project life cycle
  • Manage, mentor and support project engineers, providing advice and guidance from initial concept to completion
  • Responsibility for effective Project Management and delivery across a diverse range of electrical HV projects including liaison with clients, consultants, and their representatives. Produce project construction programmes and manage activities to the construction programme.   • Experience of commercial management of projects and financial forecasting
  • Experience with managing projects from £1-10 Million in value

ELECTRICAL ESTIMATOR/BID ENGINEER

Powersystems UK Ltd is a high voltage engineering company specialising in electrical power infrastructure, grid connections and renewable generation. Due to our continuing success within these sectors, we are seeking an experienced Bid Engineer/ Estimator to join our team in our Bristol office where the future is electric!

As part of a team, you will be asked to manage tender enquiries from initial opportunity identification through to PQQ and ITT processes, bid submission, bid presentation, contract negotiations and eventual handover to projects teams.

Duties and responsibilities of the role include:

  • Managing the full life cycle of tender enquiries from initial enquiry to submission.
  • Develop a strong understanding of clients commercial and technical requirements.
  • Produce technically and commercially attractive bid submissions in order to secure future work.
  • Carry out site surveys, attend pre-tender, post tender and pre-order meetings.
  • Set out and build-up of tender costings.
  • Engage with sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • Prepare bid for client submission, including all bid documentation.
  • Manage any re submission activities or clarifications activities through to contract award.
  • Build client relationships.
  • Project a professional image to clients and colleagues.

Qualifications / skills

  • Proven experience of successful bid submission / Estimating in transmission or distribution industries.

  • Strong negotiation skills.
