Role Overview

As a SHEQ Advisor, you will play a vital role in maintaining, developing, and promoting Powersystems’ Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality culture. You will support the business in delivering renewable and electrical infrastructure projects safely, responsibly, and in full compliance with legal and industry standards.

You will work across project teams, suppliers, contractors, and business functions to embed SHEQ excellence throughout the full project lifecycle.

This role is based in Bellshill, Glasgow, supporting projects across Scotland and the wider UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 management systems.
• Carry out audits, inspections, and compliance checks across the business.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, delivering root‑cause analysis and close‑out reports.
• Produce and deliver SHEQ briefings, communications, and lessons‑learned updates.
• Advise on legal compliance, industry standards, and SHEQ best practice.
• Embed SHEQ considerations into tenders, projects, suppliers, and contractor management.
• Champion Powersystems’ Priority No.1: Health, Safety, Wellbeing, Professionalism, and Continuous Improvement.

About You

We’re looking for someone with experience in SHEQ within construction, utilities, electrical, or engineering environments, including:

• Demonstrable experience delivering SHEQ activities in a technical or project-led industry.
• Knowledge and understanding of CDM Regulations (2015).
• Previous experience supporting or conducting ISO 45001, 14001, and 9001 audits.
• NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate, or NVQ equivalent.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage teams.
• Full UK driving licence & Right to Work in the UK.

• Experience working within the renewable energy, utilities, or electrical engineering sectors.
• Incident investigation training or experience.
• Internal auditor qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide exemplar project management throughout the project life cycle including internal and external resource to ensure project goals and customer expectations are met
• Communicate with manage, mentor and coach project engineers, providing advice and guidance from initial concept to completion
• Organising and attend all project briefings and meetings with all stakeholders
• Deliver the commercial and financial goals of projects, agreeing initial budgets, procurement including competitive tenders from the supply chain and forecasting budgets for financial reporting
• Health and Safety – Ensure project compliance with all health and safety adherence, including strategic meeting and planning of projects, produce RAMs as well as undertaking safety and quality audits
• Build and maintain relationships with our clients and supply chain partners. Provide liaison on design, installation, and commissioning. Attend manufacturers factory acceptance tests

Required Skills:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience of project management and delivery within the electrical contracting or utility industry

• Commercial management of projects and financial forecasting as a minimum between £1-10 Million
• Excellent planning and real ability to ‘look ahead’, whilst supporting business processes
•  Degree, HND in Project Management, ideally experience in HV Systems
• Experience of managing large teams
• Have obtained or working towards professional registration with the IET at IENG / CENG level

Manage the procurement process with the Procurement Manager, obtaining competitive tenders from the supply chain and supporting the Procurement Manager with technical submissions and queries. Attend manufacturers factory acceptance tests when required
• Co-ordinate with the Design Engineer and Project Engineer to determine roles and responsibilities within the project team
• Selection of Design Consultants, equipment suppliers and subcontractors, obtain competitive tenders and submit technical information for subcontract tenders
• Review and compile safe systems of work for operational tasks in line with Powersystems Approved Procedures and HV Safety Rules
• Produce Non-Conformance Reports on technical deviations
• Attend site project coordination meetings and undertake inspections / audits of site works to monitor quality, progress, manage commercial aspects of the project in line with statutory requirements
• Provide proactive support and guidance to all parties on compliance with statutory requirements and company standards
• Submit project requirements, technical information, programme and scope of works to Powersystems Commissioning Manager to manage the commissioning process
• Manage and review simulation studies for generation connections undertaken by other consultants or carried out in-house, including load flow, reactive power capability, fault level analysis, power quality, and harmonic studies to demonstrate compliance with Engineering Recommendations, the Distribution Code, the Grid Code, and industry standards
• Option to undertake HV switching operations, work towards authorisation under the Company’s HV rules and develop skills to become an Authorised Person (AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP)
• Uphold a professional image, contribute to Powersystems’ success, and proactively improve services and efficiency

Required Skills:

• Degree, HND in Electrical Engineering or similar field, or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience of Electrical Engineering within the High Voltage renewables or utilities industries
• Experience with supporting technical electrical engineering projects within the High Voltage renewables or utilities industries
• Proven ability of good communication and influence at all levels
• Capable of working effectively whilst under pressure
• Adept at assessing and identifying compliance shortfalls or engineering opportunities within designs
• Able to plan ahead and prioritise workload
• Proficient in following business processes whilst managing multiple time pressured tasks
• Strong organisational, time management, IT (MS Office), and report writing skills, with excellent spoken and written English.
• Ability to clearly communicate technical and commercial information, negotiate effectively, and contribute to a dynamic team.
• Adaptable, resilient, proactive, willing to travel across the UK with occasional overnight stays, and holds a full UK driving licence.

Key Responsibilities:
