Our engineers have extensive experience in the design and construction of distribution systems from 415V up to 33kV, and this together with the knowledge of the industry ensures a solution to meet any challenge.

DesignWith extensive industry knowledge our design team are able to propose and develop power engineering solutions to meet any challenge. With an in depth understanding of electrical safety and environmental codes of practice, all designs are developed safe in the knowledge that the best practices have been adhered to. The cost of any design is monitored to ensure that the developed design is within the project budget constraints.

All drawings are produced on CAD packages and issued for approval prior to construction. As part of the electrical design Powersystems are able to carry out protection grading exercises, system fault level calculations, cable sizing, earthing designs, load flow and stability studies all by our in-house specialists.

With established relationships with all the major electrical equipment suppliers Powersystems are able to ensure that the plant that you require for your project will be procured at the right price and delivered at the right time to the right specification. Starting with the design Powersystems engineers will follow the procurement process from initial order, manufacturer’s designs & drawing approvals through to final inspection & testing. Our engineers regularly attend factory acceptance tests at the manufacturer’s premises prior to equipment dispatch as part of the process.
At the centre of any industrial site there will be an electricity substation forming the hub of the electrical infrastructure, working 24 hours a day seven days a week. The reliable running of this substation is of no coincidence when you employ Powersystems to design, install, test and commission the works.

Electricity substations are regularly installed across all the voltage ranges from 415v to 132kV with each substation tailored to the requirements of the site with switchgear, transformers and protection schemes selected to provide the right engineering and commercial solution.

Power distribution transformers with oil, silicon, Midel or resin insulation are regularly supplied and installed by Powersystems with ratings between 50kVA to 5000kVA and voltage ratios to suit the electrical distribution or generation requirements.

Transformers can be supplied as free standing units or have an 11kV ring main unit or circuit breaker mounted directly onto the HV bushings. On the LV side, fused or ACB distribution cabinets can be supplied tailoring the transformer package to the individual site requirement.

At primary voltages above 11kV Powersystems can supply and install power transformers at voltage levels up to 132kV for ratings between 5 and 160MVA.

Installation of high voltage switchgear is a highly specialised activity and Powersystems have the specialist expertise to install switchgear from 415v to 132kV. Each and every switchboard installation is supervised by a trained engineer and to date Powersystems have installed and commissioned every current make of 11kV switchgear including oil, air, SF6 and vacuum circuit breakers. Once installed each switchboard is tested and commissioned to exacting standards.

On many sites switchgear is reaching the end of its design life and Powersystems prides itself in being able to offer replacement solutions to minimise the site shutdown period.

Using our specialist cable installation teams we are able offer the complete range of cabling solutions from control and auxiliary cables, low voltage power and high voltage power cabling. Each team is fully equipped with cable winches, cable drum jacks, rollers and drum trailers to enable any installation to be completed smoothly and efficiently.

With the combination of traditional skills and modern techniques Powersystems HV cable jointers have the training and experience to joint and terminate all types of cable whether a new installation of XLPE cable or existing paper lead or PICAS cables.

We have experience across a wide range of products and regularly install terminations and joints produced by Tyco, Pfisterer, Euromold, Coopers, Prysmian & 3M.

The selection of the correct protection and control scheme is fundamental to the operation of electrical distribution systems under normal and fault conditions. Our engineers understand this and are able to design the optimum system to interface between all the components of an individual site. Protection is either specified on switchgear or mounted within custom built protection panels. Protection relays can be supplied from any of the major manufacturers to provide the correct protection functionality in each individual case. Once installed all relays are tested and commissioned on site to prove correct operation of the scheme.
The testing and commissioning of high voltage electrical equipment is a highly specialised activity with each and every installation being tested by a trained engineer to exacting standards.

We have Senior Authorised Persons operating across the UK, working closely with teams of cables jointers and electricians who, using the companies in depth knowledge of electrical testing systems will quickly identify and fix the fault.
