Powersystems Lights the Way: Delivering Sustainable Energy at South Fambridge Solar Farm

October 8, 2025

One of our latest successes is the South Fambridge Solar Farm (132 kV) project in Essex, which was successfully energised at the end of last week. The site is now live and connected to the UKPN network — marking another major milestone in the UK’s journey toward decarbonisation.

This achievement is the result of exceptional teamwork, commitment, and technical excellence across every stage of the project. Our engineers, construction teams, and commissioning specialists worked tirelessly — often late into the night — to ensure the site was completed ahead of programme while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. Their dedication reflects the true spirit of Powersystems: working together, day and night, to deliver engineering solutions that make a real impact.

Location: 3 km northeast of Hockley, Essex
Grid Connection: Linked to the UKPN overhead power line at Fambridge Road
Installed Capacity: 43 MW
Annual Output: Enough renewable energy to power 15,000 UK homes*
Site Area: 70 hectares
Community Contribution: £50,000 to Ashingdon Parish Council
Environmental Gain: 142% increase in biodiversity once complete

*Based on average UK household consumption of 3,700 kWh per year

The South Fambridge Solar Farm demonstrates how sustainable engineering can deliver benefits far beyond renewable energy generation. In addition to powering homes and businesses with clean electricity, the project will create native wildflower meadows, plant new trees and hedgerows, and enhance habitats for birds, bats, newts, and pollinators — resulting in a 142% biodiversity net gain once completed.

This project highlights our continued commitment to supporting the UK’s Net Zero ambitions, working in partnership with developers, communities, and network operators to deliver reliable, sustainable infrastructure.

At Powersystems, we’re not just connecting projects to the grid — we’re connecting communities to a carbon-free future.
