Powersystems is proud to share a major key milestone achievement from our high-voltage engineering team — the successful design, build, and pre-commissioning of our first 275 kV protection panels for the Coylton Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project.
Built entirely at our Bristol facility, this milestone showcases the skill, collaboration, and dedication of our team, who delivered under a tight schedule to support the Coylton Greener Grid Park in East Ayrshire, Scotland.
Appointed by RJ McLeod on behalf of our mutual client Statkraft, Powersystems has been contracted to deliver the 275 kV compound and Electrical Balance of Plant works.
As part of the Stability Pathfinder Phase 2 initiative for National Grid ESO, the Coylton BESS will provide 50 MW of energy storage with a 2-hour duration, connecting to the Scottish Power 275 kV transmission system via the Coylton 275 kV Substation.
The successful completion of our first 275 kV protection panels, fully designed, built, and pre-commissioned at our Bristol facility, have been delivered on a tight schedule, this achievement reflects the dedication and expertise of the Powersystems high-voltage electrical engineering team.
Meet the Team Behind the Panels:
🔹 Build Team: Tim Rendall, Theodore Downer, Oliver Prior, Ursula Bracey
🔹 Software & Testing: Awais Khan, Sikandar Khan, Waqar Ahmed
🔹 Electrical Design: Max Ellery
🔹 Senior Engineer: Vasia Alexopoulou

This marks Powersystems’ second collaboration with Statkraft on a Greener Grid Park project, following the successful delivery of works at Keith Greener Grid Park in Moray, Scotland
