Powersystems, a leading high-voltage electrical contractor and NERS-accredited Independent Connection Provider (ICP), has reaffirmed its position as a cornerstone of the UK’s renewable energy sector. The company has now connected over 2,398 wind turbines across 320 land-based wind projects, representing approximately 24% of all UK onshore wind generation.
A Heritage in UK Wind Energy
Powersystems’ journey in UK renewables began in 1993 with the completion of the second commercial land-based wind farm at Goonhilly Downs in Cornwall. The turbines at Goonhilly Downs were later replaced in 2010, having delivered electricity on 98% of operational days, completing an estimated 3 billion total turbine revolutions during their service.
This early experience provided Powersystems with a deep understanding of high-voltage electrical infrastructure, positioning the company as a leading contractor for wind farm electrical balance of plant (EBoP) projects, ranging from single turbines to sites with more than 70 turbines.
Expanding into the Broader Renewable Sector
Building on its wind sector expertise, Powersystems expanded into the solar, battery storage, electric vehicle, nuclear, and other renewable generation projects, and today have delivered over 9.9 GW of clean energy capacity to the UK electricity grid.
- 320 land-based wind farms connected
- 2,398 wind turbines energised
- 8 GW of onshore wind capacity delivered
- 24% of UK land-based wind generation connected
This track record demonstrates Powersystems’ capability to deliver complex high-voltage projects at scale, providing developers with technical assurance, programme certainty, and compliant grid connections under the latest NESO and ICP frameworks.
