Powersystems successfully delivered its fourth annual Training Week from 5–9 January 2026, bringing together all 165 employees across our Bristol and Glasgow offices for a comprehensive programme focused on health, safety, technical excellence, leadership and sustainability.
This intensive week of learning reflects our unwavering commitment to PriorityNo.1: the health, safety and well-being of our people, while ensuring our workforce is fully equipped to support the UK’s transition to a low-carbon, sustainable energy future.
As a British-based company operating at the forefront of renewable and power infrastructure, Powersystems recognises the vital role our people play in shaping resilient, safe and future-ready energy systems. Training Week 2026 ensured every employee remains aligned with the latest safety rules, industry standards, commercial awareness and best practice across our operations.
Leadership, Ownership & Business Awareness
Managing Director Chris Jenkins opened the week with a company-wide update, reflecting on Powersystems’ achievements in 2025 and outlining the vision for 2026 and beyond. The session reinforced what employee ownership means in practice and how every individual contributes to shared success.
This was supported by a financial fundamentals session led by Finance Director Monica Briand, giving employees greater visibility on how the business operates, how value is created and reinvested, and how strong financial stewardship enables long-term stability and employee reward.


Health, Safety & Well-being at the Core
- Health & Safety Culture Workshop – An interactive workshop focused on behavioural safety, hazard awareness and positive intervention, empowering employees to actively influence and strengthen our safety culture across all operations.
- Safety Rules Refresher -A vital annual refresher covering mandatory Authorised Person (AP) procedures and approved HV safety rules, ensuring safe working practices remain second nature.
- POWRA (Point of Work Risk Assessment) -Strengthening dynamic risk assessment skills through real-world scenarios, personal accountability and learning from past incidents.
- Restricted Access Training -Tailored sessions for operatives and project/site managers covering hazard identification, access controls, emergency response and documentation in restricted and confined environments.
- Occupational Health -Annual HAVI, dermal and audiometry assessments were carried out alongside confidential occupational health reviews, reinforcing our proactive approach to employee well-being.
- Crisis Intervention -Training designed to upskill staff in responding to mental health crises, strengthening internal support networks and promoting a culture of care and early intervention.



Technical & Engineering Excellence
- Engineering Technical Workshop – A deep-dive technical forum covering grid compliance, earthing, cable design, metering, harmonics, CTs and LV design—directly shaped by feedback from engineers, designers and SAPs.
- Commissioning, Documentation & Processes – Focused on consistency, quality and best practice in commissioning activities, including document standardisation and collaborative process improvement.
- Earth & Cable Testing – Practical training covering soil resistivity, earthing methods, cable testing techniques and accurate completion of QUIDS documentation.
- Introduction to IEC 61850 -An overview of substation automation standards, communications and configuration, concluding with a hands-on practical exercise in the panel shop.
- Test Universe Workshop -Hands-on training using Omicron’s Test Universe software, with a focus on overcurrent protection testing and real-world application.
- Cadweld Practical Workshop – Providing safe and correct use of Cadweld through practical, hands-on instruction.


Operational Safety & Compliance
- Abrasive Wheels – Ensuring safe use, storage and inspection of abrasive wheels while addressing health risks such as silica dust and hand-arm vibration.
- Asbestos Awareness – Critical awareness training on recognising asbestos, understanding its severe health risks, legal requirements under CAR 2022, and implementing effective control measures.
- Vehicle Banksman / Traffic Marshal – Developing safe vehicle movement practices through planning, communication, signalling and risk assessment.
- Vehicle Equipment & Emergency Readiness – Ensuring company vehicles are fully equipped with compliant first aid kits, fire extinguishers and essential safety equipment.




People, Inclusion & Data Responsibility
- Equality, Diversity & Inclusion for People Managers – Equipping leaders with the knowledge and confidence to manage equality, prevent discrimination and foster a respectful, inclusive workplace in line with the Equality Act 2010.
- GDPR for Managers – Practical, role-specific guidance on data protection responsibilities, personal data handling, privacy risk management and breach reporting.
Bringing People Together
To kick off the week, employees enjoyed a friendly quiz night, fostering camaraderie and collaboration across teams. Throughout the week, staff were treated to a rotating selection of food vendors—from pasty and snack wagons to fish and chips and pizza—recognising the hard work and commitment of our people.
